5      "His dark brown eyes,
His curly hair, His flattering tongue Did my heart ensnare."
6     Gently was he now . . . like you To advise a maiden
To advise a maiden To . . .
7     We travelled o'er the mountain tops, When the hills were clad with snow.
FAIR PHCEBE AND HER DARK-EYED
SAILOR
I give the complete song from a broadside printed by Forth, Pock-lington, Yorkshire (No. 78).
1      It's of a comely young lady fair, Was walking out to take the air, She met with a sailor upon her way,
So I paid attention to hear what they did say.
2     Said William — lady why roam alone ? The night is coming, and day near gone, She said while tears from her eyes did fall,
It's a dark-ey'd sailor that's proving my downfall.
3      It's two long years since he left the land, I took a gold ring from off my hand,
We broke the token — here's part with me, And the other rolling at the bottom of the sea.
